Micro Hydro
Micro Hydro deals with producing power from a small stream, spring or water source. Normally there is a small dam and intake pipe that funnels water into a 4-8 inch pipe. This flows to a nozzle that turns a pelton wheel on a turbine or DC electrical generator. This in turn feeds a battery bank or can be converted to run into a grid intertie system. The great thing about micro hydro is it can generate power 24/7 if you have a year round source. The amount of power output you receive depends on how much head you have (elevation drop) and your flow rate. We have installed Harris hydro turbines as well as the stream engine type turbines. Micro hydro is very site specific and just because you have water flowing may not necessarily mean that micro hydro will work for you. Call and we can determine if a site visit is necessary to evaluate your hydro potential.
